365 POUNDS OF CHAOS: KADYN PROCTOR BREAKS COLLEGE FOOTBALL
Gunnar Galloway - October 1, 2025
In a football landscape where innovation and tradition collide, Alabama’s recent trick play sparked many a conversation throughout the community. This play began and ended with Offensive Tackle Kadyen Proctor, a genuine mountain standing 6'7 365 pounds, lined up wide, caught a pass off a screen, and fired down the sideline. It took eight Georgia defenders to finally drag him to the turf. Yes. Eight.
People are calling the play everything from “pure genius” to “what is this game anymore?” And honestly, both sides are valid. Alabama’s offensive coordinator, Ryan Grubb, said the play had been floating around since fall camp, but they didn’t run it until practice convinced them Proctor could actually pull it off.
“He made a catch earlier in the week that gave us a lot of confidence… pulled it right off the ground, so pretty impressive seeing a big guy like that do what he did,” Grubb said in an interview.
Even QB1 Ty Simpson was fired up about the play. “He worked really hard to get his weight down, and he told me, 'If you give me a good ball, I'll go score.' I was like, 'You don’t worry about my ball. You worry about catching it,’” Simpson said. And honestly, the tank delivered. Watching a 365 pound man run like he’s at the NFL combine is… insane.
Social media instantly exploded. One fan wrote, “Kadyn Proctor screen got me out of my seat.” Another: “That’s so terrifying man.” And yeah… Same.
Georgia's defense? They were completely blindsided. But I mean, who expects a literal su to be the one with the ball, let alone the capabilities to move down field like that after a screen pass. They swarmed, they flailed, they did everything short of calling in the cavalry, and even then it was close. That alone got every fan in the stadium and everyone watching at home was out of their seats.
This play perfectly captures why college football is insanely entertaining. Coaches are pushing boundaries, seeing what happens when you bend the rules of normalcy: linemen catching passes, defensive tackles throwing shovel passes, you name it. Sure, it’s risky. A dropped ball here would have been a nightmare. But innovation only works if you’re willing to take the gamble.
At the end of the day this play wasn't some one off highlight reel, it was a giant middle finger to conventionality. It was maybe the most insane thing to pull out of your hat 1st & 10 on Georgia's 17. A 365 pound lineman catching a pass? Hell yeah. Running over defenders like speed bumps? Absolutely. Smart play? Honestly, who cares. It’s exactly why we watch the game. The stuff we’ll be talking about until next season, and why college football will never, ever be boring.
