JAKE RETZLAFF LEAVING BYU

Skyler Sorenson - June 29, 2025

BYU quarterback Jake Retzlaff is leaving the university after receiving a seven-game suspension for violating the school’s honor code.

The suspension comes after Retzlaff claimed to have had “consexual” sex with a Salt Lake County woman. The claim was in response to a civil lawsuit filed in May where the defendant, Jane Doe A.G., claimed to have been sexually assaulted by Retzlaff.

The woman and Retzlaff connected on social media, where they both eventually met at Retzlaff’s house. After the incident, she was administered a rape kit at a local hospital. Whereafter, she contacted the Provo Police Department to report the crime. At first, she refused to name Retzlaff in the report. But she decided to give them his name after a Provo police officer said that “someone else filed a complaint against a football player and the police wanted to see if it was the same person.”

While the lawsuit is still open, BYU’s honor code restricts students from premarital sex and expects students to “live a chaste and virtuous life.” Which is why the university took action with a suspension.

According to a source, Retzlaff hasn’t shown up to team workouts since Friday and has been looking to land at another program. Since then, the Quarterback has officially entered the Transfer Portal.

Our hearts go out to any sexual assault survivor. Sharing stories can help raise awareness, especially when supporting those who are still healing from traumatic experiences.
