SAM HORN SIGNS WITH DODGERS, WILL FINISH SEASON AT MIZZOU

University of Missouri quarterback and right handed pitcher Sam Horn has officially signed a professional contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers, committing to a future in baseball while staying with the Mizzou football program for the 2025 season. The announcement adds a new layer to Horn’s unique athletic journey, as he becomes one of the few active college athletes in the modern era to navigate both high level college football and a professional baseball commitment at the same time.
Horn, a former four-star quarterback out of Suwanee, Georgia, was one of the most highly anticipated dual sport signees when he joined the Tigers in 2022.
With an NFL caliber arm, Horn turned down early MLB offers out of high school to pursue both sports at Missouri. Since then, he has spent three years developing under head coach Eli Drinkwitz, gaining valuable experience in the quarterback room while occasionally flashing the elite traits that once made him a top 100 national recruit.
Now entering his redshirt sophomore season, Horn is still battling for the Tigers’ starting quarterback role. He’s competing in fall camp with redshirt freshman Daniel Kaelin and other transfers as the coaching staff evaluates who will lead a talented Missouri offense in 2025. Though the QB1 spot remains unsettled, Horn has impressed coaches with his maturity, vocal leadership, and ability to command the playbook. He remains in serious contention as the Tigers gear up for a challenging SEC schedule.
On the baseball side, Horn’s arm talent has long intrigued scouts despite his limited playing time due to spring football overlap. Standing 6 '4 and featuring a fastball that routinely sits in the mid 90s, Horn’s projection as a pro pitcher has grown every year. That upside led the Los Angeles Dodgers to select him in the 20th round of the 2024 MLB Draft. Despite questions about signability, the Dodgers were able to work out a deal with Horn that allows him to remain with Missouri through the fall before reporting to the organization’s minor league system in 2026.
Horn’s decision to sign shows a clear intention to pursue a long term career in baseball but not at the expense of his commitment to Mizzou. He has stated that he remains fully invested in the team and plans to give everything he has to the football program this fall, regardless of whether he wins the starting job or not. That team first mentality has earned respect from teammates and staff alike.
Missouri’s coaching staff has expressed support for Horn’s dual sport journey, noting that his professional decision doesn’t change the energy and focus he brings to the field each day. His presence in the quarterback room adds depth and experience, and his ability to make throws few others can continue to keep him in the mix. With a full season ahead, Horn will remain a key figure in Mizzou’s locker room while preparing to step into a new world once the football season concludes.
While it’s rare in today’s era of early specialization to see an athlete manage two high profile sports at this level, Sam Horn is walking that line with ease. Missouri fans will get one final chance to watch him compete this fall before he transitions into his role with one of Major League Baseball’s premier organizations.
